Lepto Silk Scarf (Long)
Artwork statement
This imagined wildflower landscape grew within me over a number of visits to Wallum coastal heathland in different seasons during the past two years.
Prompted by these endemic enclaves of plants I have tried to capture the shimmering vision of woven copper grass, sun bleached tree limbs, metre high grasstree spikes and dancing banksia giants, all stippled with wildflowers, some minute tiny white stars and others crazed clusters of colour and texture.
All these elements live together in this wall hanging, created from different moments, memories and particular plants that spoke to me, asking to be noticed and reimagined through pen and ink.
In each mark, is the joy of shared company with women present and past who all loved being in the Wallum.
(Scarf design is a sister design to the artwork ‘Wallum Shimmer’ Edith created for ‘Wildflowering By Design’ group exhibition that toured Bundaberg and Hervey Bay Regional Galleries)
